** No cameras of any kind are allowed in the ballroom.**
Natural Rules
Beauty has a time limit of two minutes including personal introduction.
All other events have a 90 second time limit (plus 10 seconds to set up prop(s) if needed)
Beauty: dresses may be custom or off the rack. Sunday best, nice party dress, pant suits, baby-doll, prom and ball gowns are all acceptable. Minimal stoning is allowed since many dresses are purchased this way.
0-6: The only make up allowed is light foundation or powder mascara and lip gloss to avoid becoming washed out under the lights
7 -10: They may have mascara, light foundation or powder/ concealer for blemishes, natural looking blush, and lip gloss.
11 & up: May have everyday make up, but please keep it light and natural looking.
in natural: think less is more
There should be no fake anything on your head! This means no fake lashes, no flippers, no falls or wiglets (special consideration may be given under certain circumstances such as a medical condition that requires the use of a wig), braids and/or weaves for the AA girls that are part of your everyday look are allowed because these take hours to put in. Keep it simple and natural looking; we want to see the real you!
There is no crossover from natural to glitz, therefore NO AIRBRUSH TANNING is allowed in NATURAL.
In beauty we are looking for a child who is put together well and having a good time. A child dressed in a Sears dress will have just as much chance of winning as someone in a Sherri Hill gown. Other than for side awards, the only attire score is for fit, flatter, and age appropriateness. Your walk should be a natural walk, not a bouncy glitz walk. It is OK to show personality, but again, the judges want to see the real you.
Personal Introduction: for contestants 5 and up (contestants under 5 may choose to introduce themselves, but it is not required).
Personal introduction will take place on the first x in beauty following the group line up. Sample introduction: Hi. My name is Suzie Sunshine and I am six years old. I like to play ball and dance. When I grow up I want to be a teacher Thank you. If a child is nervous about speaking he/she may be accompanied by an adult
Outfit of choice. Be creative. Anything goes. You may bring your own music or we will provide. It is wise to have a back up copy just in case . Props are not needed or necessary, but are allowed. If you are using a prop, you will have 10 seconds in which to set it up. Make up, wigs, etc may be worn as part of a costume, but not to enhance features--save that for glitz.
Casual wear: same hair and make up rules as in beauty. Think cute, trendy, and classy. This may be custom or off the rack, but we don’t want it looking like a costume. Please no props and no gymnastics. We will provide music for this event.
Themewear: anything goes. The theme for Just missed Christmas in July is anything Christmas or winter!. This can be a holiday swimwear, a cute winter outfit, a reindeer costume, etc. You may add make up or wigs. You may bring your own music (it is wise to have a back up copy just in case). Props are not needed or necessary, but are allowed. If you are using a prop, you will have 10 seconds in which to set it up. If competing glitz and natural, you will do the same routine because there will be different judges. Gymnastics are allowed, but please use caution--remember this is a portable stage. It is okay to be creative. If competing both natural & glitz, you must do the same themewear because you will only perform once in front of both panels of judges.
Photogenic: This should be a natural photo. This means that the only retouching should be stray hair removal, shadow reduction, etc. This is standard for most professional photographers. Make-up (if any) should be minimal in all age groups. Any size photo may be entered. 8 1/2 x11 or 8x 10 headshots work best.
***no smoke or fog machines or confetti guns in any event! (hotel rule)*** Also no projectile weapons are to be used in any event (ie bb guns, bow & arrow, etc) ******
Parent/chaperon attire: If you are escorting your child on stage, please dress modestly and please do not wear any attire promoting any coaching group. My judges do not care who you coach with or if you coach at all. I don't want anyone to feel intimidated by feeling that they have to have a coach. However, it IS okay to wear your coaching attire in the ballroom as long as you are NOT going on stage.
If you are late for group line up, you may join your group on stage at the end of the line and you will not lose any points, but you will be ineligible for side awards and you may miss your photo with Mr. Tim. If you are late for any event when your name is called to go on stage, you will lose 1/2 point, but you will be allowed to compete.
